What To Do In A Winter Lockdown
⛅☔
Rambling On… 4 June 2021.
Not much has been happening in this neck of the woods.
Hence the rambling about nothing.
The whole of Victoria, my state in Australia was put into lockdown for a week. The restrictions in regional Victoria, where I’m from were lifted on Thursday night at midnight but the greater Melbourne region, the capital city and surrounds, still has another week to go before the restrictions there will be eased. At present all Victorian cases are confined to that area, so it makes sense to isolate it from the rest of the state.
Last year when we first went into lockdown and couldn’t leave our homes for anything other than food and whatnot, I decided to take up a hobby to occupy myself in my spare time. Not that I had much since I was still working and keeping house.
Anyway, I bought a rug hooking or latching—whatever you want to call it—kit. It was cushion sized of two wolves and when I felt like it, I sit in front of the TV, not really watching and rug hook.
It turned out okay for my first efforts and I decided last week I wanted to do more.
This time I bought a kit online and it’s a small rug or mat size. When I opened the package and saw all the wool and the matting, I got a bit overwhelmed. I haven’t started it yet, but I will.
I think this one is going to take a long time to complete because there is no way I can sit and hook for hours on end. Especially after typing all day long. Sometimes my arms are too sore to do more repetitive work.
But I’m excited to begin now and I will finish the rug in my own good time. The picture is a couple of wolves and once the rug is complete, I’m going to put it under my desk in the study where the floor is tiled.
The tiled floor is great in summer when it’s hot, but in winter they’re really cold. I wear my calf-length wool-lined boot slippers with socks but I can still feel the cold permeating up from the floor. Of course, I have the heater on when it’s too cold not to, and I’ve even tried working with a rug over my lap. That’s a bit too awkward though. We had a large floor rug over the tiles in the study, which was moved to under my chair and desk, but it’s not thick enough.
Maybe I’m just a wuss because I’ve always felt the cold even as a kid. I can have the heater on, with socks and slippers and three layers up top and I still end up putting my robe on over everything else.
Some people I know don’t feel the cold and walk around in shorts and T-shirts no matter the temperature.
I wish I was like that. Janice, I don’t know how you do it, xxoo.
I want to thank you all for following me and reading my books. If it weren’t for all of you, I wouldn’t be able to do what I love.
Stay safe, sane, happy, and healthy.
Love Becca Van. xxoo.
What Have I Been Writing?
I’m writing Alaskan Wildlands 4. This story is about three more tipan bears and their mate, Tina.
Since it’s only early in the month, I haven’t written much, am still fleshing out my characters and the plot, but so far so good. I’m liking what I have.

What Have I Been Reading?
I’ve just completed reading His Virgin Mate (Interstellar Brides: The Virgins Book 2), by Grace Goodwin.
The story was good, and I enjoyed reading about Alexis Lopez and Von of Everis. There was a bit of action, a lot of steamy scenes, and to be honest not much of a storyline.
I can’t say this book was bad, but to me, it had too much sex and not enough story but that’s only my opinion.
I will leave it there for now.
Enjoy your week ahead, until next week.
Love,
